He is used to human contact, an excellent performer and all round riding animal. He is a variety of colours, but bays and browns predominate. He stands up to 14.2 hands high.

The tiny Shetland Pony (average height 40 inches) is the smallest of the British native ponies. On his bleak and windswept home islands he was generally used for transporting seaweed and peat as a crofter's pack pony, but his great hardiness, strength and small size meant he became much used as a pit pony. Today the Shetland is a popular children's pony. The Shetland is thick set and broad with short legs. He has ample mane and tail for protection against the weather and can be a variety of colours.
