The Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) is regarded by many anglers as the King of freshwater fish. It makes delicious eating and good specimens may be over four feet in length. Young Salmon may remain for up to five years in fresh water before making their way down to the sea. After 1-6 years in the sea, the Salmon returns to its native river to spawn. Anglers use the fly as the most sporting means to take a salmon and wet flies are usually the most successful.
